taking a harbour boat tour. I know it's the most touristy thing to do in Hamburg, but it's still a great experience. It's different every time, depending on which ships are in the harbour when the tour takes place. It departs at least once an hour from Landungsbrücken (you can get there easily by the U3 subway).

the Miniatur Wunderland, the world's largest model railway system. It features several cities, the Swiss Alps, an operational airport, and much more! It was built with such attention to detail that I discover something new every time I go there.

The Bunker St. Pauli, a WW2 bunker turned green. Offers panoramic views over the city. Close to Feldstraße subway station (U3). Free entry. Plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby.

walking through the 115-year-old, 426-meter-long Old Elbe Tunnel. The tunnel is a great photo opportunity, and from the other side, you get a fantastic view of Hamburg's "skyline"!

climbing The Michel, Hamburg's iconic church tower with one of the highest church steeples in the world. Great views. Located near Baumwall subway station (U3). Plenty of dining options nearby in the Portugiesenviertel.

alternatively to the harbour boat trips, you can take the public transport ferry no. 62 to make a tour down the river to Finkenwerder and back up again, in one go, without leaving the boat.

strolling through the Isemarkt, a lively market under a stretch of the beautiful iron high-line of the metro, Tuesdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Momo Ramen in the Schanzenviertel. It's one of the best places in Hamburg for authentic Japanese ramen, with delicious homemade broths and a relaxed atmosphere. Since it's a local favourite, the restaurant often fills up quickly, so I'd recommend reserving a table in advance. From HAW Hamburg (U Mundsburg), you can simply stay on the U3 to Sternschanze station, and it's just a short walk away.

going to the bouldering hall located near the Berliner Tor subway and S-Bahn station. Bouldering is a form of climbing done without ropes or harnesses at a safe jumping height. The hall is open until 11 p.m., making it an ideal place to visit after a long day of sitting at a conference. The website is in German, but feel free to ask Sebastian for details!

to walk along the Eilbek-Kanal towards Alster and head towards the northern part of the lake. A beautiful spot to watch the sundown is Krugkoppelbrücke (around one hour walk from the conference venue). People meet on the bridge and bring their own drinks, but there are also some bars around.
